Social Media and the Quality of News and Information

Ever since social media has become a big hit, the quality of news and information has increased dramatically.  Not only can news stations post the latest news on their online websites, but also to their companies or personal Twitter and Facebook pages, this can make getting the latest news so much easier. For example, if someone doesn’t have time to sit down and watch the news on TV or read the newspaper, they can go online on either their computer, or smartphones to read up on what’s going on around their area, or even around the world.

Not only has social media increased the quality of news and information, it has increased how fast word can travel. If breaking news happens half way around the world in seconds it can be on TV or online here for people to hear or read about.

I believe that the information the news shares, and how they share it has increased for the better, thanks to social media.

  1. Laura, I couldn't agree with you more! We live in a society that thrives off of communication, news and information to keep us going. Social media has helped us increase not only the quality of news and information, but also the when, where & how we hear about it. With newpapers, news broad casts, social networking sites etc. all using social media word travels 10 times faster then it used too! The advancement of technology has also done a huge part in helping aid us to receive and deliver the news and information for whoever wants to write, speak, read or listen. It's a great thing. At this point I'm not sure how they can make it even better! It's already amazing to see it blossom! Don't you agree? :) Cheers.

  2. I agree with your post completely. It’s amazing to see how many TV shows and News channels advertize their Facebook or Twitter pages at the end of their show. This makes life a lot easier for those who do not have time to sit down and watch the news, like you had mentioned. Having access to the internet world wide, helps news travel that much faster. This is always a plus when you have family or friends visiting or living in another country. Need less to say Social media is increasing the information and the quality of news we hear, see and listen to today.
