Perception of Social Media

Many people today have different perceptions of social media, and wonder: do you think it is a fad or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?

Today I thought I would give my point of view on how I perceive social media.

To start things off, what is social media? Well, there are many ways social media can be explained, but in the easiest way to describe it, social media is a way how people can communicate to each other electronically. Some examples of social media are: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc...

More and more people each day jump on the bandwagon and join a social media site. This is mostly because it is easier to stay up-to-date on the latest news, or even TV shows if they happened to miss it. Also by joining social media sites it's convenient to stay close with friends and family, when they aren't close by.

Even companies are using social media to get their company know around the world. Business may even choose to advertise online rather than around a town. By doing this they are already helping the economy by saving paper, and it is more effective. Another reason why businesses use social media, is to reach out to the public, and keep them updated with recent news and events that may be happening.

Therefore believe that social media has become one of the biggest shifts since the Industrial Revolution, so come on and jump on the bandwagon with social media!

  1. ALL ABOARD THE BANDWAGON! I'm right there with you Laura, I love me some social media! I 110% agreed with you when you said "By doing this they are already helping the economy by saving paper, and it is more effective". Not only is it helping the economy and more effective, but get this... I actually have a neighbour that works for a printing company that prints out an annual sample catalogue and they are actually no longer printing them anymore and moving to the world wide web with it! Isn't that nuts! A printing company... where the print things.. is making their catalogue on the web, instead of printing it. Blew my mind. Hope it blows yours as well.

    Cheers,
    Brittany

  2. I completely agree with how more and more people are joining a social media site everyday. This is quickly becoming the most popular source of media in the world. Even schools now are using social media in the classroom. Our class right now is a prime example. Using blogging as a assignement, really well said Laura

  3. I am totally agree with what you mentioned. By joining in to social media sites we can easily get news, gossips and world news up to date. Also it can re connect us with our far living relatives and keep them in touch and easier to share family event pictures and videos quickly. I also like the point where you stated about it helps the business to get themselves advertised through social media. Now days business like metro and loblaws are offering their customers online coupons through Facebook.
